Our Planet, Our Responsibility!

We at Brick It like to think that in some small way we contribute to our global earth cleaning efforts by recycling brick. Every reclaimed brick sold reduces the amount of waste going to our landfills, and eliminates a need for making and firing a new one, consequently reducing impact of CO2 on our environment and global warming.

Clinker Bricks. Named for the distinctive sound they make when banged together, clinker bricks are the result of wet bricks placed too close to the fire. The intense heat of coal-burning traditional kilns creates a hard, durable and water resistant brick. Over baking the brick produces rich, warm colors as well that ran the gamut from reds, yellows, and oranges to deep, flash-burned browns They were often discarded, but around 1900, these bricks were discovered by architects to be usable and distinctive in architectural detailing. Modern brick-making techniques rarely produce any by-products, therefore Clinker Brick became extremely difficult to obtain. Brick sizes and thickness vary +/-.

Each lot, by nature, is limited, and they are often gathered from particular buildings of historical significance. The appearance is slightly irregular, hand-molded and worn-looking producing the artisan-installed brickwork look.

Esthetically this product delivers warmth and unique feel but it is important to remember that it is does not meet today’s ASTM standards. Bricks are fragile, some are cracked and half and/or partial pieces or are found in boxes.

We recommend purchasing approximately 10% (+/-) over the required quantities and using common bond pattern in order to minimize waste.
