ASTM C 270, ASTM C91 - Standard Specification for Mortar for Unit Masonry; specially formulated mortar mix.

Protect fresh pointing from rain. Allow mortar to cure for a minimum of 72 hours at 70°F (21°C) before exposing to rain.

Substrate temperature must be between 40°F (4°C) and 90°F (32°C).

Mixing:

Use approximately 2-3 qts (2–2.8 L) of clean potable water for 40 lbs (18.4 kg) of Brick It Pointing Mortar. Place water in a clean 5gal bucket, add entire bag of mortar and entire content of a color packet slowly (1 to 1 if applicable). Mix with mortar mixer attached to a slow speed 1/2” drill (450-550 rpm) mixer to a flowable consistency. Allow mortar to slake for 5 minutes. Remix mortar. Properly mixed mortar will flow out of the grouting bag with moderate pressure.

Application:

Dampen surface with water. Use either a trowel and tuck pointing tool or a mortar grouting bag to place mortar. Apply mortar to horizontal first, than vertical joints avoiding leaving any voids. Once applied allow to firm to “thumbprint” hardness, trowel, rake and/or brush to the desired finish.
